Job Information

The University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) invitesツ applicationsツ for anツ Associate R&D Engineer, R&D Engineer I, or R&D Engineer II to provide engineering support the High-Speed Aeroacoustics Research Group (HSAG) and participate in data acquisition and analysis.

ツ

HSAG is a small group of researchers working in tight collaboration on experimental research activities. The group includes scientist, research staff, graduate students, and undergraduate interns. The work environment is interactive, fast-paced, and engaging. Additional information is available at http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/aeroacoustics/.

ツ

HSAG desires a candidate with experience in design, development, and troubleshooting of mechanical fixtures and measurement systems in the areas of fluid dynamics, aerospace, aeroacoustics, or flight hardware. The applicant will be expected to provide engineering support for the development/maintenance of HSAG research facilities including but not limited to wind tunnel facilities, compressor systems, hydraulic systems and actuators, laser systems, optical fixtures, electric power systems, and real-time controls. The candidate will be responsible for designing or modifying test models in close collaboration with HSAG scientists to achieve research outcomes. The candidate will interpret and apply engineering standards to evaluate safety factors associated with testing of aeroacoustics models.

ツ

The candidate will be expected to become the primary resource for operation of the Jet Noise Laboratory and Mach 5 Trisonic Wind Tunnel. As such, the candidate should have an applicable engineering background, be capable of CAD/CAM operations through the assembly stage for research projects, and have familiarity with aerospace ground testing systems.

ツ

The NCPA is an externally funded research unit of the University. R&D staff positions in the NCPA follow a promotion path (Associate R&D Staff, R&D Staff I, R&D Staff II, Senior R&D Staff, Principal R&D Staff). For promotion, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate R&D activities resulting in successful development of prototypes, refereed publications, and/or patents.

Job Responsibilities

The candidate shall provide engineering support to HSAG scientists. The candidate shall install test models and hardware in testing facilities and evaluate safety factors to ensure safe operation of the facilities. The candidate shall ensure proper maintenance of HSAG facilities and oversee necessary repairs/modifications. The candidate will be responsible for directing undergraduate interns in research support activities. For promotion to Senior R&D Staff, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate R&D activities resulting in successful development of prototypes, refereed publications, and/or patents.
