Assistant Professor (Social Work)

Definition of Class

The School of Applied Sciences Department of Social Work at the University of Mississippi seeks to employ a dynamic professional to join its faculty as an Assistant Professor. This position is a tenure-track position requiring a Ph.D. in Social Work / Social Welfare or equivalent and an MSW degree or equivalent. Two years post MSW experience. Teaching load is expected to be four courses per academic year. Other faculty responsibilities include scholarly research, seeking external grants, committee assignments and thesis work.

Examples of Work Performed

Responsibilities include teaching courses as assigned in the Department of Social Work (the equivalent of two courses per semester), engaging in research, and service to the profession and community. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to work with students, faculty, and professional social workers in the community. The teaching load will be six hours (2) courses per semester. Candidates should be able to: 1) maintain an active research agenda leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals; 2) obtain federal grants or other external funds for state agency or community-based research partnerships; 3) develop multidisciplinary research connections on and off the UM campus; 4) teach across the curriculum with particular emphasis on evidence-informed clinical practice, policy, and service; 5) apply knowledge of EPAS 2015; and 6) perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

Ph.D. in Social Work / Social Welfare or equivalent (ABD will be considered with Ph.D. completed by time of appointment)


Master's of Social Work Degree or equivalent with 2-years post-MSW clinical experience practice experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
