Custodian, Temporary (Facilities Management)

Definition of Class

This position cleans and maintains University buildings or guest rooms at The Inn at Ole Miss. The incumbent cleans and services assigned areas in University buildings/guest rooms, maintains and stocks supplies, and assists in transferring items between University buildings.

Shifts available:
3:00 am - 11:45 am
5:00 pm - 1:30 am

Examples of Work Performed

  • Cleans and services assigned areas in University buildings/guest rooms.

  • Maintains sufficient stock and supplies to perform daily tasks.

  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums in assigned areas, as needed.

  • Cleans rest rooms, offices and replenishes supplies.

  • Picks up trash, empties garbage containers and removes trash for disposal.

  • Sanitizes trash containers as necessary to meet Health Department requirements.

  • Cleans and polishes brass, silver, glass, and drinking fountains.  

  • Operates polishing machine, carpet machine and vacuum cleaner.

  • Cleans guest rooms, monitors for wear and tear and reports any damage or repairs, as needed.

  • Prepares table linens for various University events.

  • Assists in transferring items to various University buildings.

  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

Ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions.




A valid driver's license may be required depending on the department.               

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Cleans, services, and stocks supplies.

  2. Transfers supplies needed for cleaning and stocking to various University buildings.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
