Mississippi College Corps

The College Corps is a community-based service-learning program that addresses problems related to education in areas throughout Mississippi. AmeriCorps members are deployed to community partner organizations to provide support to improve school readiness and educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged young children. College Corps seeks to provide stable, reliable AmeriCorps members and add a new layer of strength to each of the host sites. All College Corps members must be enrolled as students at an Institute of Higher Learning in Mississippi. Members will serve approximately 10-12 hours per week.RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend required training, member development, and service-related workshops throughout the year ++ Accurately record service hours on required timesheets ++ Participate in service project planning and activities, including National Days of Service ++ Provide the Jumpstart curriculum to preschool children with a team of peers ++ Provide the Brainstorm curriculum to children in grades 1-4 ++ Prepare for tutoring sessions prior to arrival at session ++ Provide assistance to assigned teachers as needed working with students one on one and/or in group sessions

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
