Assistant Professor of Design and Manufacturing

Candidate is expected to foster a balanced program of research and undergraduate / graduate instruction that integrates the perspectives of machine design, robotics, lean manufacturing, additive manufacturing, operations research, automotive and sustainable engineering. Candidates should be qualified to teach courses in the core curriculum of a mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering technology programs. Candidates are expected to engage in research and scholarly activities, participate in school/College/University and professional service, assist with ABET accreditation processes, and advise students. Examples of Work Performed Teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses related to design and manufacturing, and in the discipline area of mechanical engineering. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Develops courses on special topics, such as machine design, robotics, lean manufacturing, additive manufacturing, operations research, automotive and sustainable engineering. Mentors undergraduatestudents. Works with seniors towards the development of Capstone projects. Performs both direct, and indirect assessments of student outcomes. Establishes an externally funded research program. Supervises both Masters and PhD students towards a thesis. Requires to develop research proposals for obtaining external funding through internal and external collaborations. Contributes to knowledge creation evinced through scholarly publications. Engages in building the reputation of department through professional services. Serves as a member of departmental, School of Engineering, and University committees. Minimum Education/Experience A Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with teaching and research experience in manufacturing and robotics is required.
