Definition of Class
The University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics is seeking a Research Scientist I/II or Senior Research Scientist to work with and lead other NCPA staff in furthering research into atmospheric infrasound. A PhD in Physics, Geophysics, or related field and at least two years of post-doctoral work experience is required. The successful candidate must have experience with infrasound propagation modeling and phenomenology as well as infrasonic data collection and analysis. Familiarity with C/C+
and Python is required.
Job Responsibilities (examples of work performed and essential functions):
Work with and lead scientists and other NCPA staff on all aspects of infrasound phenomenology, signal detection, and analysis.
Minimum Qualifications (Education/Experience):
Research Scientist I:
i. A PhD in Physics, Geophysics, or related field and at least two years' experience as a postdoctoral research associate or Associate Scientist.
ii. Participation in the activities of recognized professional societies in one's discipline.
iii. Research productivity resulting in publications of superior quality and potential for procurement of research grants and contracts.
Research Scientist II:
i. A PhD in Physics, Geophysics, or related field and a minimum of three years of service as a Research Scientist I or in a position with similar duties and requirements.
ii. Active participation in recognized professional societies in one's discipline.
iii. The attainment of a national reputation for successful research in a specific area, as evidenced by authorship of refereed articles in leading journals.
Senior Research Scientist:
i. A PhD in Physics, Geophysics, or related field and a minimum of four years of service as a Research Scientist II or in a position with similar duties and requirements.
ii. The exercise of leadership roles in the activities of recognized professional societies in one's discipline.
iii. The attainment of a national reputation for successful research in a specific area, as evidenced by authorship of numerous refereed articles in leading journals and the receipt of major funding in support of research.
iv. Priority will be given to candidates who are eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
